The highest professional standards are always expected from student teachers, both at university and on school placement. Student teachers are advised that if a school withdraws or terminates a placement due to unsatisfactory professional practice (for example safeguarding, unprofessional behaviour, or health and safety concerns) a meeting would be convened with university staff (Lead Mentor, Programme Lead, Head of Partnership & Mentoring or Head of ITE). The meeting would focus on a review of the situation and would thereby determine if a 'Fitness to Practise' assessment was required. According to the situation and outcome, the student teacher would be made aware of the 'next steps' according to the appropriate LJMU policies and procedures.
NB: If a student teacher withdraws themselves from a placement without discussion this may jeopardise their continuation on the programme. Student teachers who have concerns about a placement should contact their Lead Mentor (Liaison Tutor) as a matter of urgency. They should not, under any circumstances, withdraw themselves from the placement.
